our three conference tourneys

Day 1  MACT no surprises

March 12 Sunbelt

1 UTSA vs. Florida International 12 p.m. American Sports Network
2 Middle Tennessee vs. Charlotte 2:30 p.m. American Sports Network
3 Western Kentucky vs. Marshall 6 p.m. American Sports Network
4 North Texas vs. Rice

march 12: Surprised W.Mich lost to Akron

march 13- UAB survived, MTSU  kept ODU from dancing. TX St in a mild upset over UT-ARl in the Sunbelt. How about AKron’s run in the MAC

March 14-I’ve been touting UAB  and stuck with them through their late season slump . Big game today vs MTSU, a 6 seed, in the CUSA final UAB will need another big gameinside  from Mehinti.MTSU got a great game from DJ Jones, a reserve, in yesterday’s win over LT. He’ll need to be ready again today. LT may be NIT bound.

Buffalo’s X Ford (17 Pts, 11 Reb, 2 Stl ) slowed down the Zips and will face C. Mich  C Fowler (26 Pts, 5 Reb, 5 Ast, 2 Stl). Two top seeds in the final but a slim chance for both to go dancing.

UL Lafayette K Shepherd (16 Pts, 3 Reb, 2 Ast, 1 Blk) ended TX St cinderella move and ULM M Deng (12 Pts, 14 Reb, 2 Ast) defeated S. Bama. I’m looking for an all Georgia final tomorrow. (1)Ga St led by Harrow & Hunter  should get by (4) ULL, and (2)Ga. Southern led by Hewitt will eke one out over (3)ULM.

Of these three conferences, Louisiana Tech or CMU (if they lose and need an at large bid) have a chance at dancing. I’m sticking with my 4  from 3 theme.

march 15- Too bad i didn’t bet on UAB when I predicted they’d win the CUSAT. UAB 73 MTSU 60

Bobby Hurley cutting down the nets- this time as Buffalo’s coach. Buff 89 CMU 84

Buffalo: S. Evans 18 Pts, 5 Reb, 4 Ast, 1 Stl, 1 Blk. X fORD added18

Central Michigan: C. Fowler 27 Pts, 2 Reb, 9 Ast, 2 Stl, 2 B

Georgia St started it paybacks   for losing last year’s SunBelt final to ULL  and will complete their quest by edging  GASO today. Yesterday GST 83 ULL 79.    GSO 44 ULM 43

Scorching SunBelt

Ga St, Ga Southern, and ULM are tied at 13-5 with two conference games left.

Ga St Panthers are  @ULM on Mar 5 and  @  GSU in the final regular season gave Mar 7.

Ryan Harrow is the  Panthers’ star and has enough talent to take them to the regular season title.

Hewitt has been steady for G-Southern but his efforts were not enough tp prevent a loss to 4th place ULL last night

ULM had a bad loss last night to App St last night, and I don’t know where they’ll find the scoring.

So toss a coin , or settle for a tie cuz  a Georgia school will hold or share  this years SunBelt crown

Feb 21 – three hot games

CUSA- La Tech(21-6, 12-2 C-USA) , the CUSA leader, travels north to face ODU (19-6, 8-5 C-USA) who will like need to win the CUSAT to make the Dance.  Freeman  will shine today for ODU as they get a big win.

(16-9, 7-6 MAC)

Bowling Green

(17-7, 9-4 MAC)

Moss will put up big numbers for Buffalo but not enough to stop their recent slide. BG trying to re-group from a bad lossto Miami O will get a  big game for Richaun Holmes today.

___________________________________________________________________________Georgia Southern will get a big game from Hewitt  against Ken Williams and the USA Jags and stay a game behind ULM in the SunBelt race .

email me at vaporbust4@gmail.com for CBS fantasy baseball

Feb 22: ODO and Freeman were  stoked from the beginning> Coach Jeff Jones knows a thing or two about getting to the Dance.

Ga Southern and Hewitt hung on against S.Bama 80-74.

My incorrect pick was BG who lost 68-56 despite a solid effort from Holmes(15 Pts, 7 Reb, 1 Ast, 5 Blk). Buffalo was led by S. Evans 19 Pts, 1 Reb, 3 Ast, 1 Stl

Four from three

The  winners of the CUSA. MAC , & Sunbelt tournaments will get automatic dance tickets and are too difficult to predict. Every year a few regular season winners are  sent to the NIT.  Western Kentucky & Georgia Southern are atop the first two conferences, and Buffalo and Toledo are atop the MAC divisions. I think the CUSA gets a possible  extra ticket. UAB is tied for the second with La Tech who they  just walloped and will be my dark horse  for the extra ticket. Anyone remember when they brought in Gene Bartow to kick start  the  new program almost thirty years ago? So much is up in the air with three weeks to go in the regular season.

Four players headed for solid NBA careers.

CUSA: Jerome Hill- UTSA  17 ppg 8rbg ; Raheem Appelby- Louisiana Tech  16ppg , 2rbg 2apg

MAC: Justin Moss- Buffalo- 18ppg 9rbg

SunBelt: Ryan Harrow- Georgia St- 20.4 ppg, 2 rbg ,  4.3apg

Feb 11: Moss had 33 points and 10 rebounds  for Buffalo in a loss to the red hot Toledo Rockets (six straight) in an East matchup. Bowling Green and Akron kept pace in the West

fEB 26:  Leaders

MAC: East then West

Bowling Green 10-5
Kent St. 10-5
C. Michigan 11-4

Ga. Southern 12-4 19-6 138
Georgia St. 12-4 19-8 80
UL-Monroe 12-4

La. Tech 12-3 21-7 64
UTEP 11-3 19-7 60
UAB 11-4

2/27/15 CUSA update . Big LT win over Utep- ODU wins again. Props to Marshall’s steady improvement.

Bowl time

I’m focusing  on matchups between members of  the three conferences we’ve followed all season :MAC, CUSA, &Sunbelt.

BOCA RATON BOWL Marshall /NIU Marshall D will struggle stopping the Hare/Stingley show but Cato will toss a few TDs . MU 31 NIU 27
Doughty(WKU)outduels Rush (CM) in QB shootout
Go Daddy Bowl Toledo/Ark St
Kareem Hunt sparks the Rockets to  a 30 -20 ground battle  win over Ark St
Raycom  Bowl South Alabama/Bowling Green:
BG ‘s QB Knapke has thrown for  2805 yards and 13 TDs , but USA will survive a shootout with a good effort from  Bridge. USA  40 BG 38
Dec 24:  I was correct on Marshall winning but  didn’t see them dominating NI. MU 52 NIU 23. The big MU3 were stellar

Passing: R Cato (MRSH) – 281 YDS, 3 TD

Rushing: DJohnson (MRSH) – 15 CAR, 131 YDS, 1 TD

Receiving: T Shuler (MRSH) – 18 REC, 185 YDS, 1 TD

Dec 25-Got damn close on predicting the final score which was WKU 49 CM 48-  still got the winner. Rush had better stats but Doughty’s team  won.
C. Rush 28/45 493 11.0 7 1 84.0
Central MichigaN

Western Kentucky Passing

B Doughty 31/42 486 11.6 5 0 98.7

Jan 5-Late gewtting back to this blog:  I picked Toledo but they  more than doubled my guess on their point total. Toledo 63 Ark St 44. Hunt was a beast 32 CAR, 271 YDS, 5 TDfor Toedo while Knighten was stellar in defeat  tossing for 403 yards and 5 tds for Ark St.

S.Bama put up a good fight , but  BG’s Knapke to Green combo was too much .. BG 33  USA 28.

Three out of four ain’t bad

week 15 title games

CUSA: Marshall La Tech

Butler did a nice job filling in for the injured Devan Johnson in the tough loss to WKU to end  their undefeated season but Cato threw 4 Ints.. LT is coming off a rout  of Rice and Sokol is a hot QB. Marshall will re-group and edge LT 40-39.  Game site has not been determined.

MAC :  Bowling Green vs NIU @Ford Field in Detroit.

I’ve been going against NIU a lot this season so now I’ll reverse course. Hare will run and pass NIU over BG- 30-20. NIU Dwill be able to contain BG QB Knapke.

dec 6  review

BG hung around for  the first 30 minutes  but was squashed 51-17 by the Hare /Stingly combo  C. Stingily (NIU) – 15 CAR, 116 YDS, 2 TD   D. Hare (NIU) – 218 YDS, 2 TD, 1 INT

Cato and crew toughed it out in a nice comeback win 26-23 over LT

week 14 , pick 3

MAC West  battle for first. I’ll go with W. Mich Terrell/Franklin QB /RB combo to edge the NIU Hare Stingly combo.

Sunbelt: Ga Southern will rebound from Navy thumping  and beat ULM. Breida will have a big rushing day against ULM

CUSA: Can the improving Marshall D stop the high flying Doughty train of WKU? Very tough call but I’ll say MU 35 WKU 34

Nov 27: still time to vote in the poll. NIU/WMU kicks off 11AM  Friday

Nov 29

ofer 2.  needed to nearly double the point total  on the CUSA game. Doughty outdueled Cato.

Hare’s feet made the difference as NIU scored 24 unanswered points in a 31-21 W over WMU

Nov 30

GASU 22 ULM 16  saved me from 0fer3, and  captured the Sun Belt Conference title with an undefeated, 8-0 conference record.
