Other 5 as conference play begins

Other5 =AAC,CUSA,MAC, MWC, & Sunbelt

AAC- SMU should win the conference   but is ineligible for post-season play. Houston lost to Grand canyon and barely survived Wyoming. Cincy has played a tough OOC and I wonder about Uconn’s adjustment to losing Brimah for 6-8 weeks.

CUSA-  I’m still leanin g more towards UAB and MTSU, but La Tech has had a decent early season. Wonder how MTSU responds to the Ga St loss.

MAC-Starting to buy into a solid Akron squad with a good defense.

MWC-  UNLV is still the favoritebut Jalen Moore and the Utah StUtes have played well.

SunBelt-  Ark Little Rock gave Texas Tech a battle before losing  and beat Depaul of the Big East. I like UT Arlington as a dark horse.

MAC crazy: O5 Bowl games Dec 22 -24

O5= AAC,  CUSA, MAC, MWC, SunBelt.

I’m going MAC CRAZY  and picking NIU, BG, W.Mich,  & Toledo are among my winners but Akron isn’t.

Idaho Potato: Utah St. vs Akron Dec 22. I’m still not sold on Terry Bowden but  his DC , Chuck Amato  has improved the D . Look for both USU QBs to find Hunter Sharp. USU 17 Akron 10

Boca Raton: Toledo vs  Temple Dec 22.  Campbell , Toledos HC Campbell  for , but  Iowa St, but their rushing attack led by Kareem Hunt. Toledo 22 Temple 16

Poinsettia: Northern Illinois vs Boise St. Dec 23.  NIU by a Hare 22-21. Look for Bougamon to get150 + rushing yards against a reeling BSU squad.

GoDaddy: Bowling Green vs Georgia Southern Dec 23 .Matty J & the Falcons will soar over a struggling GSU squad.  BG 29 GSU 15

Popeyes Bahamas: W. Michigan vs Middle Tenn. St. Dec 24.  Zack Terrell will lead Fleck’s Broncos to  win in  a shootout against the Blue Raiders. WMU 39 MTSU 29

Hawaii: Cincinnati vs S. Diego St. Dec 24 . I’m looking for Pumphrey to rush for 200 + as the Aztecs survive Cincy’s aerial show 31-30.

Mid December Other 5 hoops report

AAC- SMU handled Michigan easily, but their banned from the post-season. Memphis  has been slowly recovering with strong efforts from KJ Lawson and tonight’s Ol Miss game will show if they’re going to hang tough this season. Temples terrible start is a head scratcher.

CUSA-  WKU and Marshall have  stumbled more than I anticipated. La Tech has some easier games to recovered from  the Ol Miss spanking. Perrin Buford and his fellow MTSU Blue Raiders appear to be serious contenders.

MAC-  Akron & NIU   remain steady in pre-conference games.  Kent St faces SMU Dec 22. Can Kellon Thomas lead them to an upset win?

MWC-  New Mexico has struggled against the stronger conferences . Its two losses are to USC and Purdue, and they face auburn Dec 22. Maybe Fresno St   who played Arizona tough takes the conference?

SunBelt-  I’ll stick with Ark-LR and UTA as pre-season favorites with a passing nod to Ethan Montalvo and the Tx StBobcats.

Other 5 brief hoops

AAC-  SMU beat Michigan but  can’t play in the post-season. Cincy looks sharp and has big intra-city contest against Xavier today. Houston finally played a decent team Rhode Island and lost.

CUSA: Disappointed that UTEP (BTW< MWC recruiting them) lost to Texas – Arlington.  Louisiana Tech faces Ol Miss this week. They lost to Memphis earlier this season so the jury is out.

MAC: Bowling Green and NIU are shining early but I’m intrigued by Akron with the solid trio of Forsythe, Jackson , & McAdams.

MWC .UNLV Rebels lost a tough one to Wichita St (MVC)  , but Van Vleeet was solid.

SunBelt: Props again to TX-ARL and still like Ark LR when conference play starts.

our three conference tourneys

Day 1  MACT no surprises

March 12 Sunbelt

1 UTSA vs. Florida International 12 p.m. American Sports Network
2 Middle Tennessee vs. Charlotte 2:30 p.m. American Sports Network
3 Western Kentucky vs. Marshall 6 p.m. American Sports Network
4 North Texas vs. Rice

march 12: Surprised W.Mich lost to Akron

march 13- UAB survived, MTSU  kept ODU from dancing. TX St in a mild upset over UT-ARl in the Sunbelt. How about AKron’s run in the MAC

March 14-I’ve been touting UAB  and stuck with them through their late season slump . Big game today vs MTSU, a 6 seed, in the CUSA final UAB will need another big gameinside  from Mehinti.MTSU got a great game from DJ Jones, a reserve, in yesterday’s win over LT. He’ll need to be ready again today. LT may be NIT bound.

Buffalo’s X Ford (17 Pts, 11 Reb, 2 Stl ) slowed down the Zips and will face C. Mich  C Fowler (26 Pts, 5 Reb, 5 Ast, 2 Stl). Two top seeds in the final but a slim chance for both to go dancing.

UL Lafayette K Shepherd (16 Pts, 3 Reb, 2 Ast, 1 Blk) ended TX St cinderella move and ULM M Deng (12 Pts, 14 Reb, 2 Ast) defeated S. Bama. I’m looking for an all Georgia final tomorrow. (1)Ga St led by Harrow & Hunter  should get by (4) ULL, and (2)Ga. Southern led by Hewitt will eke one out over (3)ULM.

Of these three conferences, Louisiana Tech or CMU (if they lose and need an at large bid) have a chance at dancing. I’m sticking with my 4  from 3 theme.

march 15- Too bad i didn’t bet on UAB when I predicted they’d win the CUSAT. UAB 73 MTSU 60

Bobby Hurley cutting down the nets- this time as Buffalo’s coach. Buff 89 CMU 84

Buffalo: S. Evans 18 Pts, 5 Reb, 4 Ast, 1 Stl, 1 Blk. X fORD added18

Central Michigan: C. Fowler 27 Pts, 2 Reb, 9 Ast, 2 Stl, 2 B

Georgia St started it paybacks   for losing last year’s SunBelt final to ULL  and will complete their quest by edging  GASO today. Yesterday GST 83 ULL 79.    GSO 44 ULM 43

Scorching SunBelt

Ga St, Ga Southern, and ULM are tied at 13-5 with two conference games left.

Ga St Panthers are  @ULM on Mar 5 and  @  GSU in the final regular season gave Mar 7.

Ryan Harrow is the  Panthers’ star and has enough talent to take them to the regular season title.

Hewitt has been steady for G-Southern but his efforts were not enough tp prevent a loss to 4th place ULL last night

ULM had a bad loss last night to App St last night, and I don’t know where they’ll find the scoring.

So toss a coin , or settle for a tie cuz  a Georgia school will hold or share  this years SunBelt crown

Feb 21 – three hot games

CUSA- La Tech(21-6, 12-2 C-USA) , the CUSA leader, travels north to face ODU (19-6, 8-5 C-USA) who will like need to win the CUSAT to make the Dance.  Freeman  will shine today for ODU as they get a big win.

(16-9, 7-6 MAC)

Bowling Green

(17-7, 9-4 MAC)

Moss will put up big numbers for Buffalo but not enough to stop their recent slide. BG trying to re-group from a bad lossto Miami O will get a  big game for Richaun Holmes today.

___________________________________________________________________________Georgia Southern will get a big game from Hewitt  against Ken Williams and the USA Jags and stay a game behind ULM in the SunBelt race .

Feb 22: ODO and Freeman were  stoked from the beginning> Coach Jeff Jones knows a thing or two about getting to the Dance.

Ga Southern and Hewitt hung on against S.Bama 80-74.

My incorrect pick was BG who lost 68-56 despite a solid effort from Holmes(15 Pts, 7 Reb, 1 Ast, 5 Blk). Buffalo was led by S. Evans 19 Pts, 1 Reb, 3 Ast, 1 Stl
